
Captain’s Corner
Captain Estrada has dedicated 17 years to a law enforcement career with the Houston Police Department. She was born and raised in Valle Hermoso Tamaulipas, Mexico and immigrated to the United States in 1999. She is a NJROTC graduate from South Houston High School. She attended San Jacinto College and University of Houston Downtown where she obtained two undergraduate degrees in criminal justice. Captain Estrada continued with her education obtaining a master’s degree in leadership & management from Sam Houston State University and is currently attaining her Doctorate from Adler University in Industrial & Organizational Psychology.
Captain Estrada's impressive background includes a second-degree black belt in taekwondo, experience as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and service in the Navy Reserves. Throughout her law enforcement career, she has worked primarily in patrol, as well as in the vehicular crimes division as both a crash line and hit & run investigator, the adult sex crimes unit, and the real-time crime & command center. Her dedication and hard work have been eminent through her promotions to Sergeant in 2015 and to Lieutenant in 2020. She became the youngest Captain of the department at the age of 36 in October 2023. She is a proud volunteer with the Honor Guard, HPD Pipes & Drums Band, Peer Support Mentor Program, and the Special Response Group (Hard Team). In addition, she works closely with non-profit organizations that help officers and their families such as the Family Support Unit and the Hispanic Officer of the Year organization. Captain Estrada is also an instructor with Comunidad en Accion which offers free community seminars on safety and preparedness. In her own words, "My greatest honor is to be a positive role model for my family, friends, and the future generations of policing."
